About the Item
This unique artwork by Richard Proctor is part of a series of 3 (see last pictures and 2 other listings)
It has been created through interweaving strips of painted fabric in order to create a complex composition with depth and texture.
Weaving is one of the most ancient forms of creativity and design, and the artist used it here to convey a powerful statement of duality confronting himself to his creative outlet.
Richard M. Proctor was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1936, and after graduating from Michigan State University with an M.A. in Painting, he spent most of his life in the Northwest. Along with teaching art and textile design at the University of Washington, Proctor operated the Childers/Proctor Gallery in Langley, Washington with fellow artist and long-time partner, Ron Childers. He was an Associate Professor Emeritus at the University. Proctor has also been a docent at the Palm Springs Art Museum in California since 2001.
Along with being an accomplished painter, printmaker, and ceramicist, Proctor was also an author. He wrote two books, Principles of Pattern Design and Surface Design for Fabric. Proctor was splitting his time between California and Washington and was creating art.

- Large Vibrant Surrealist Painting. Domestic Scene In Virtual LandscapeBy Natasha LelencoLocated in FISTERRA, ESShipped well packed in a roll, without frame. "The Nap (Bacchus' Siesta)" is an Artwork by Natasha Lelenco, a Spanish artist of Moldovan origin, created using acrylic on canvas. It depicts a domestic scene that combines figuration with geometric elements, residing somewhere between the pixelated world of digital imagery and allusions to the traditional ornamentation found in Eastern European canvases and tapestries. An intimate scene that bridges the gap between the virtual and physical worlds, illustrating the difficulty of finding a solid footing. The artist herself says this about the piece: "This work, humorously referred to as 'Bacchus' Siesta', originated as a portrait of my partner during the days of the 2020 pandemic lockdown. It was the first completed piece in the series titled 'New Jungles.' These works delve into themes of disorientation and virtuality, portraying characters who seem lost and absorbed. The degradation of the environment, the commodification of Earth's resources, and the displacement of communities due to consumerism all lead to disorganized societies where individuals become powerless subjects, struggling to find solid ground and a sense of place. 'Bacchus' Siesta' portrays a salon scene immersed in a simulated natural setting. The intricate floral details of the traditional Moldovan carpet...Category

- Frank Sinatra The Song Is You - Figurative Textural Pop Art Portrait PaintingBy Virginie SchroederLocated in Los Angeles, CAPlaying with the interaction between positive and negative space, strong colors on neutral backgrounds, Canadian artist Virginie Schroeder creates pop art portraits and iconic pop culture imagery that defy traditional pictorial representation. She works from the ground up, adding several layers of thick acrylic paint on canvas until she is able to carve out colorful, undulating portraits filled with emotion as well as recognizable dynamic objects filled with movement. Her work is playful and poetic, constructing the famous visages of notable public figures and familiar popular objects. One step closer and her work is abstract. A step back and an iconic likeness appears. This original 20-inch square artwork is wired and ready to hang. The sides of the artwork are painted as a continuation of the front and it does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the front and back of the painting. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and global shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Virginie Schroeder is an innovative artist based in Quebec, Canada. Her paintings are made to inspire new artistic visions while impressing with their stunning technicality. When a face, an animal, a landscape, or any other subject is removed from its linear structure, it acquires a completely different form, a new identity, and dimension. One does not recognize it at first sight; it emerges as the very process of observation. It is here that the magic occurs, as the viewer consciously discovers a work of abstract character in vivid color which plays upon the tension between the figurative and the imaginary. Virginie Schroeder seeks an unstructured, new, and yet popular vision, and hopes to awaken our senses in the search for her works. Her one-of-a-kind artworks have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including Hong Kong, New York, and Los Angeles.
