Calo Carratalá
Benasque 2 by C. Carratalá - large painting, mountain landscape, Pyrenees, Spain

2017

About the Item

Benasque 2 (Snow series) is a painting by Spanish contemporary artist Calo Carratalá. Oil on canvas, 160 x 200 cm. This work of art represents a mountainous winter landscape in the Pyrenean valley of Bénasque. This high mountain peak, imposing and rocky, appears to blend into the grey clouds illuminated by a gentle sunlight. This painting is an oil on canvas in which white and grey tones are dominant. With a passion for traveling, Calo Carratalá has taken in myriad landscapes : from the Amazon to Colorado, the Alps and the Pyrenees and up to the forests of Norway. Armed with sketchbook the artist immortalizes the sensations he obtains from these panoramas. Similar to the artists from the romantic period, the type of nature that Calo Carratalá paints is both troubling, even worrying and really grand, inciting admiration and contemplation.
