Moise Kisling
Akt - Lithograph by Moise Kisling - 1930s

1930s

About the Item

Akt is a modern artwork realized by Moïse Kisling. Black and white lithograph. Signed on plate. Polish painter (Krakow 1891 - Sanary-sur-Mer, Var, 1953), naturalized French. Pupil of J. Pankiewicz at the Krakow Academy, he exhibited in Paris for the first time in 1911. After serving in the Foreign Legion (1914-15), he lived in Paris, forming with A. Modigliani and Ch. Soutine a group known as softness. In 1940 he fled France and moved to Portugal and then to the USA. In 1947 he returned to France. From an initial uncertain adherence to Cubism, he turned to clearly realist ways, preferring subjects of a popular nature, which he painted, on dark backgrounds, with incisive outlines and broad planes of colour, under whose liveliness a typically Slavic melancholy is masked. He also painted female nudes, often interpreted with explicit sensuality, and, in his later years, landscapes.
