Claude Harrison Art
British, 1922-2009
Claude Harrison studied at Preston College of Art, 1939–41 and Liverpool College of Art, 1941–42, after which he enlisted in the Royal Air Force for five years. On his return, he continued studies at Royal College of Art, 1947–50. Harrison’s work consisted of murals, portraits, conversation pieces and mystical figure compositions, which are seen in the Westmoreland poster. He was a member of the Royal Academy, and his work has regularly been exhibited in the annual summer exhibition.

Published in Mannheim by the publisher Bibliographisches Institut & F. A. Brockhaus AG, this encyclopedia appeared in an embryonic form in the 18th century. At the time it was a matter of offering a modern instrument of culture and conversation (Conversations-Lexikon mit vorzüglicher Rücksicht auf die gegenwärtigen Zeiten) to the educated classes. The real encyclopedia would soon be born from the project at the beginning of the 19th century.
