1949 Traina-Norell Couture Vogue Documented Metallic Gold Silk & Mink Swing Coat

About the Item

A well-documented and totally timeless Traina-Norell for I.Magnin metallic gold silk and mink fur voluminous swing coat dating back to their 1949 fall/winter couture collection. Fashioned in shimmering metallic gold print lamé silk brocade and luxurious mid-weight silk velvet, this rare garment exemplifies their signature blend of high-level quality with quintessential American style; elegant in its simplicity. As shown, this iconic garment was featured in an issue of Vogue magazine from the same year. The voluminous swing silhouette is so well executed and really highlights that sparkling metallic gold fabric. There is an optional front neck hook-closure which I personally love closed. Fully lined in sensational chocolate brown silk-velvet which matches the mink fur wonderfully. I adore the cropped sleeve length and effortlessness of this couture masterpiece. For those not familiar with these mid-century American designers, you may be surprised to learn of their enduring influence on, and remarkable contributions to American fashion and glamour. Norman Norell especially, in his extensive and versatile body of work, employed the finest couture techniques, making his clothes still the envy of modern designers. A museum worthy piece of wearable art. Measurements Bust: 32-36 inches Waist: Free Hips: Free Sleeve Length: 20 inches Total Length: 46 inches Shoulder to Shoulder: 15 inches This Traina-Norell documented designer coat is in beautiful museum worthy condition with no stains, holes, fade or alternations. A wearable investment piece that will only go up in value.

  • Vintage 1969 Thea Porter Couture Rare 'Samawa' Embroidered Wool Documented Coat
By Thea Porter Couture, Thea Porter
    Located in Beverly Hills, CA
An ultra rare and highly coveted Thea Porter Couture ‘Samawa’ colorful woven wool coat dating back to her fall-winter 1969 collection. An example of this gorgeous garment can be found in the book 'Thea Porter: Bohemian Chic' by Laura McLaws Helms and Venetia Porter on page 60. This is a such a unique and truly iconic piece within her body of work. I adore the vibrant abstract natural yarn pattern work, which was inspired by Iraqi 'Samawa' carpets, as well as the side hemline slits that reveal a luxurious black satin lining. The rabbit fur trim is so incredibly soft and the zip-up front closure makes this piece so wearable. An almost identical coat was even featured in British Vogue's Fall 1970 issue, shot by the famous Barry Lategan. During this period, Thea Porter's clothing attracted many celebrity customers who enjoyed wearing her erotic creations whose secret was to conceal rather than reveal. Her clients, some of whom also became her friends, included Lauren Bacall, Bianca Jagger, Mick Jagger, Sharon Tate, Elizabeth Taylor, and Pete Townshend. This magical garment originally sold at Giorgio’s of Beverly Hills which is less than a mile away from our boutique! A truly important museum worthy coat by the queen of the bohemian fashion...

A magnificent and ultra rare Henriette Favre haute couture embroidered black net-lace jacket dating back to the mid 1910's. Only a handful of her garments seem to exist; a few gorgeous gowns located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s costume collection and a beautiful evening coat at the Fashion Archives Museum in Pennsylvania. Henriette Favre had a storefront at 5 Rue de la Paix, Paris and also imported to the United States through Wanamaker’s, a famous high-end department store at the time. Henriette Favre was included amongst such fashion designers as the House of Worth, Paquin, Doucet and Drecoll from Vienna. Favre had established herself as a premiere designer by 1900. She dressed Alexandra of Denmark, Queen of the United Kingdom from 1901 to 1910. This jacket is an extraordinary wearable example of Edwardian beauty and a special find for the serious collector. We added many pictures so you can appreciate the months of couture skill that went into this piece. The unique unstructured style is strikingly modern yet the abundance of handmade embroidered roses and soutache workmanship on the sheer net is a treasure trove of antique needle...
