Jeanne Lanvin
The career of Jeanne Lanvin (1867–1946) and her eponymous brand began with a millinery apprenticeship in the late 19th century. Today, Lanvin Paris is a globally revered company and is among the oldest French fashion houses still in existence. It is renowned for its exquisite and sought-after vintage evening dresses, shoes, skirts and other garments and accessories and for having dressed such high-profile celebrities as Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Kim Kardashian and Sienna Miller.
In 1889, when her apprenticeship came to an end, the young French designer Jeanne Lanvin opened a custom hat shop on the rue Boissy d’Anglas in Paris. Four years later, she moved her business into a much more prominent space on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, one of the world’s most famous luxury fashion districts.
The new Maison Lanvin was big enough to display the pieces she would design for her daughter, Marguerite, who was born in 1897. The relationship between Lanvin and her daughter would be at the core of the brand, with a 1907 photograph of Jeanne and Marguerite in matching outfits inspiring the fashion house’s enduring logo.
In 1908, Lanvin launched a line of children’s clothing, one of the first such moves in high-end fashion. When mothers came in to buy the clothes, they often asked for similar designs for themselves.
Lanvin decided to introduce a women’s wear line with pieces that had a youthful femininity. This would grow to encompass everyday clothing, dresses, coats, lingerie and furs, as well as menswear, perfume and household items. Once she became a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture (Parisian Fashion Council) in 1909, her title officially switched from milliner to designer.
Along with her stylish designs, Lanvin identified the importance of brand identity through fabric colors, opening a dye factory in Nanterre, France. There the distinctive “Lanvin blue” was produced, so even if her designs were copied, the colors could never be exactly reproduced.
After Jeanne Lanvin's death, her daughter, Marguerite Marie-Blanche de Polignac, took over and a series of talented artistic directors would propel the brand through the trends of the 20th century, including Jules François Crahay, Dominique Morlotti, Alber Elbaz and, most recently, Bruno Sialelli.
In 2018, Lanvin was acquired by the Fosun Fashion Group, which is now focused on celebrating Lanvin’s heritage while pushing it into a new chapter.

- Vintage 1990s Nolan Miller Couture Ivory Embroidered Silk Strapless Mermaid GownBy Nolan MillerLocated in Beverly Hills, CAA breathtaking Nolan Miller Couture unworn with tags embroidered silk organza sculpted bridal gown dating back to the early 1990's. Nolan Miller was an acclaimed costume designer best known for his work on the long-running series Dynasty. Miller was nominated six times for an Emmy Award, winning 'Outstanding Costumes' in 1984 for the Dynasty series, which also set a fashion trend for glamorous high society gowns. This stunning Nolan Miller creation from his exclusive couture line is the perfect solo in the spotlight 'Barbie Doll' bridal look. This showstopper has serious allure with that hourglass mermaid silhouette. The fabric itself is a masterpiece; the highest quality large-scale ivory floral cutwork embroidered silk organza with a matching ivory silk underlay. I adore the fully corset boned satin trimmed sweetheart plunge strapless with adorable back-bow. A curved nipped waist with fitted mermaid slightly trained skirting creates the perfect amount of drama to this timeless garment. It is impeccably seamed and on the level of modern day haute couture. This would make an epic red carpet or wedding moment. - Archival 1994 Vivienne Westwood Pinstripe Wool Jacket and High-Low Trained SkirtBy Vivienne WestwoodLocated in Beverly Hills, CAAn important, well-documented and highly coveted Vivienne Westwood black pinstripe light weight wool two-piece ensemble dating back to her iconic 1994 'Café Society' spring-summer collection. As shown Susie Cave walked the runway in this sensational skirt! Vivienne Westwood is one of the most influential and recognizable British designers of the past 40 years. She began designing clothes in 1971 with the opening of her first shop, Let It Rock, at 430 King's Road. In 1976, her then lover and business partner, Malcolm McLaren, guaranteed her status among the stars when he dressed the Sex Pistols, the British band he managed, in clothes from the boutique. She was named British Designer of the Year, both in 1990 and 1991. The following December, she was awarded an OBE in recognition of her services to British fashion and in 1998 she won the Queen's Export Award. This ultra chic ensemble from Vivienne Westwood’s sensational 1994 Café Society spring-summer collection is a clever play on traditional male suiting and a perfect example of her genius. Café Society is a retelling of how European history has shaped women's fashion. The central question of this show asked what does a woman free from restriction look like? Although this show is filled with historical fashion references, Westwood subverts them by placing it on a new canvas, a liberated woman. Made from a luxurious light-weight wool, the pinstripe reads masculine yet the cut has an ultra feminine allure. The blazer features a flattering curved petal cut waist and lean, long sleeves. The gold buttons are etched with the iconic Vivienne Westwood logo orb. The matching high-low trained skirt is a statement piece in it's own right. It could be styled with many other pieces like a corset or crop top for a totally different vibe. It is constructed to nip at the waist and cascade down in an incredible high-low waterfall trained hemline. I love how it almost resembles a deflated Victorian bustle...Category
