Antique Japanese Patinated Bronze Buddhistic Lion Censer 17th/18th Century

A remarkable Edo Period (1603-1868) Japanese patinated bronze Buddhistic lion censer, exceptionally executed sculptural shishi foo dog form, finely detailed, retaining the original removable cover back plate that allows burning incense to be placed inside the body cavity so smoke billows from the lions open mouth, two character signature incised to underside. 17th/18th century Dimensions: (approx) 7" High, 8.5" Wide, 5.5" Deep Provenance / Acquisition: Heritage Auctions, Dallas, Texas.
