Rare polychrome bronze representation of the famous revolutionary Jean-Paul Marat. Represented in profile and wearing the Phrygian cap, the latter adorned with the cockade, the hairstyle in a ponytail tied with a ribbon.
Inscription on the right " UNABLE TO CORRUPT HIM THEY MURDERED HIM " above the Masonic symbol of the level pierced with a knife.

After a tormented youth, Marat, self-taught, became a doctor in Great Britain, first became known by philosophical and scientific writings that earned him a certain notoriety in the cultivated circles of London, then Paris. From the beginning of the Revolution, he was to become a well-known journalist in Jacobin circles. Defending increasingly radical solutions in L'Ami du peuple, he denounced the enemies of the Revolution as he conceived it, advocating energetic measures inspired by a systematic distrust of all those who did not adhere to his ideas. Featured in several trials, he attracted in particular the hatred of the Girondins, triumphed over them, but was murdered by one of their friends, Charlotte Corday...
