RAAK Amsterdam C-1651 ‘Night Owl’ Sconce/ Wall Lamp, Mid-Century Modern

About the Item

Designed and manufactured by lighting company RAAK Amsterdam in the 1960s, this Model no. C-1651 wall lamp, also referred to as the ‘Night Owl’, is one of those ingenious designs that really capture the essence of Mid-Century Modern design. Where wall lamps or sconces usually come as a pair, you only need one Night Owl, to be placed in the middle of a double bed. It features two circular lights which can be dimmed individually — a truly unique concept in the days. According to the RAAK catalogue: ‘RAAK solves a small but vital problem with this ‘Night Owl’: to be placed centrally above the twin beds, the ‘Night Owl’ closes one eye on request for the one who wants to sleep. The other can read on without disturbing.’ The listed lamp is in wonderful condition, with wear consistent with age and use. Fully fuctioning, no stains or loss of paint.
