English Mahogany Serpentine Chest

About the Item

English mahogany serpentine chest, the top has beautiful color and patina; the frieze, chamfer, and graduated drawers are inlaid with ebony string. The drawers are particularly sturdy with mahogany used as the secondary wood. The serpentine apron has a pleasant sweeping shape. This chest is extremely heavy, a testament to its quality. The back has two inset panels.

An extremely good quality and elegant georgian mahogany seprentine chest, which boasts a good, bold serpentine shape. It is also constructed from good quality mahogany timbers and has real presence to it. Quite unusually for an item from this period it retains original brass swan neck handles as well as its original shaped bracket feet, both of which are really great features. Overall the condition is also good, one would imagine a result of many years of being cherished and loved and looked after.
