19th Century French Countertop Vitrine

About the Item

Designed to be placed atop a counter for displaying and protecting precious merchandise, this petite vitrine was made in 19th Century France. Locking with a key from the rear, the configuration and scale indicates that this display case no doubt held precious products to be sold. Conjuring the image of its previous contents, fine jewelry, timepieces, or other valuables, their spirits pervade to imbue this little box with an unlikely charisma. A foggy layer of pocks and scratches has formed into an even patina, enhancing the dark brown and cream colored palette with a time-touched sophistication.
