Petite Antique Belgian Rouge Marble European Louis XV Style End Table
About the Item
A timeless and beautiful Belgian Louis XV style rouge topped marble side table. The table features lovely carved details on all four sides. With stylized shell and foliate motifs on the wave like aprons and corners, gently flowing cabriole legs and scrolled feet. Louis XV style furniture is characterized by lightness and curved forms. I wanted to learn more about Louis XV style furniture and so I consulted the Edith and Evelyn website, "One of the most notable features of Louis XV furniture is its curves. This style of furniture is characterized by its sinuous lines and flowing curves, which are often seen in the curvy cabriole legs of tables... Another key feature of Louis XV furniture is its ornate decoration. Louis XV furniture is often adorned with intricate carvings... Louis XV furniture was developed during the reign of King Louis XV, who ruled France from 1715 to 1774... The Louis XV style was heavily influenced by the Rococo movement (an exceptionally ornamental and dramatic style), which was characterized by its ornate and decorative design. Rococo was popular throughout Europe in the 18th century, and Louis XV furniture was one of its most notable expressions...." This table is hand crafted and proudly made in Belgium. There are some loose joints and old repairs. That being said, the table is structurally solid and the rouge marble looks great.

- Vintage Postmodern Vibe Aluminum and Stainless Sculptural Brancusi Style TableLocated in Atlanta, GAA vintage post modern style high round table in aluminum and stainless steel. The round, stainless steel top is complemented by the brushed aluminum shaft. The sculptural design of the table upright is reminiscent of the abstract works of Constantin Brancusi, especially his Endless Column. From the artstory website, "Originally created in 1918, in Endless Column Brancusi references the axis mundi, or axis of the world, a concept crucial to the beliefs of many traditional cultures embodying the connection between heaven and earth. This focus reflected Brancusi's strong and persistent affinity for the sacred, cosmic, and mythical. Endless Column also treats another theme of Brancusi's work, the idea of infinity, here suggested by the repetition of identical rhomboid shapes." In this table, conical forms of varying height, upright and inverted, are combined to create the abstract design. The scale and presence of the table are quite impressive. The heavy table base provides a sturdy and reliable foundation. This high top table...Category
