Unknown

About the Item

A fine watercolour depicting a hunting party tackling a stream and hedge. The members of the party include Lord and Lady Bolton and Sir Edward Augustus Inglefield, a Royal Navy officer who led one of the searches for the missing Arctic explorer John Franklin and the ships HMS Terror and HMS Erebus during the 1850s. This information is inscribed in graphite on the verso, likely taken from original inscriptions on the verso of the work's partner painting which is also for sale from which the date is taken, or alternatively from the verso of the work itself before it was laid to wove. Very well presented in an oak frame with a gilt-effect inner edge. Unsigned. On wove.
