About the Item

Kelley Carman Oh Baby (Gestural Abstract, Colorful, Pastel, Pink, Orange, Blue) Acrylic and Oil Stick Year: 2023 Size: 48 x 36 x 1.5 inches Signed COA provided Ref.: 924802-2108 Tags: Abstract, Colorful, Pastel, Pink, Orange, Blue ----- Kelley Carman currently splits her creative time between studios in St Louis, Missouri and the family farm near Paris, Missouri. She enjoys the freedom of the farm with husband Powell, family and friends. Many of her paintings are inspired by the dramatic light on the ever changing landscape near the farm. "My creations are personal, they are an attempt to decipher the babble in my brain, to wade through my everyday chaos towards calm. Play and discovery are my constant companions in my studio. Through my work, I find myself expressing perspective or reactions that I am not consciously aware of. There are always challenges and discoveries in the creative process, and so often I find just as many small, sweet victories. My compositions are really about my own personal journey, and I hope to convey and create happiness."

  • Myth of Sisyphus VII (Each mineral flake of that night-filled mountain), 2022
    By Vivian Liddell
    Located in Gilroy, CA
"Myth of Sisyphus VII (Each mineral flake of that night-filled mountain)" is an original contemporary painting by Georgia-based artist Vivian Liddell. This work is part of her new 2022 series titled "Myth of Sisyphus." As a multidisciplinary artist, Liddell brings a dynamic approach to her vivid, colorful two-dimensional pieces. This particular piece has a bold contrast between neon green stones and a dark background. From the artist: "Gender and power are core concepts in my work. I’ve spent two decades in “The Classic City” (Athens, Georgia), surrounded by a dual Greek culture. Fraternities and sororities separate students by gender and play a part in cementing gender roles and power structures for the next generation; ubiquitous Classical architecture (often accompanied by manicured landscape) is a constant reminder of Western ideals. After a career of painting the female figure and exploring themes related to the male gaze and the lingering inequalities that women face, I’ve focused the past five years on the male figure and his domain. My education was dominated by Western art history, where women were seen as muses; I’m reversing this traditional dynamic between the male artist/intellectual and his female subject. I create tiny “plays” with handmade props and puppet plasticine figures to reenact imagined dramas that might happen on any given home game day...

This work is part of her new 2022 series titled "Myth of Sisyphus." As a multidisciplinary artist, Liddell brings a dynamic approach to her vivid, colorful two-dimensional pieces.
