Roc Alabern (1945-2003) - Abstract - Oil canvas

Frameless.
Alabern has a place within our art history and is surely the most complete artist that Terrassa has produced within contemporary art movements.
His pictorial origins were in his native Terrassa at the end of the fifties, when he toured the surrounding landscapes with the painter Floreal Soriguera.
Roc was a restless artist and in the 80s he traveled to New York, where he spent a short stay. Later in the 90s he traveled to the United States of America to Denver, Colorado, where together with 7 Catalan artists we did an exhibition on the occasion of a cultural exchange.
Later he went, on different occasions, to work and spend time in New Mexico. He exhibited in two galleries in Santa Fe and in Taos.
In the last ten years of his life he went to live in Baix Empordà, in Fonteta. Roc was drawn to nature. In La Bisbal d'Empordà he set up his open-door studio, which allowed him to have contact with people of different nationalities.
Throughout his career, Roc Alabern's work is a one-way trip to the origins of modernity and contemporaneity. All his work is an essay to decode modern art and its problems, as well as a debate between nature and abstraction. The artist dedicated his entire life to art as a strategy of intellectual struggle and experience to discover the essence of art and its mechanisms, creating his own pictorial model.
