Jean-François Baudoin
French landscape Oil on cardboard 22.5x30 cm

About the Item

French landscape Oil on cardboard, 22.5x30 cm The artwork represents a landscape scene set in France, showcasing the natural beauty and characteristics of the French countryside. The composition features elements of the French countryside, such as rolling hills, fields, trees, or other natural features. However, what sets this painting apart is the inclusion of figures. Instead of detailed renderings, the figures are hinted at with pops of color or simplified forms. The vibrant colors and expressive brushwork of the post-impressionistic style evoke emotions and capture the artist's personal interpretation of the landscape. JEAN-FRANCK BAUDOIN (1870-1961) Born at St.Martin de Re, an island off La Rochelle, on the 26th August 1870, into an artistic family, his father being a sculptor with a studio in Paris. The family having moved from Paris during the war of 1870. As a young man, he was sent to live with an uncle in Paris, where he studied with Rousseau, bouguereau, Robert-Fleury, Baschet and Royer. He was greatly influenced by Monet, Pissarro, Degas and Van Gogh. Baudoin developed his own post-impressionist style, a master of composition, light and colour. In 1927 at an exhibition of his work at Galerie Charpentier, the French State acquired for the nation, his ‘Le Pont St Michel et Notre Dame’.

Hugues Claude Pissarro b.1935 French Dimanche au champ de course (Deauville) (Sunday at the Racetrack) Signed “H. Claude Pissarro” (lower left) Pastel on card French artist Hugues Claude Pissarro offers a unique perspective of the racetrack in Deauville in this exceptional pastel. The spectators are as much his subject as the sport in this artistic tribute to a leisurely Sunday at the tracks. Following the impressionist tradition of his father and grandfather before him, Pissarro infuses this pastel with dynamic light and vibrant colors. Entitled Dimanche au Champ de Course (Deauville), it showcases the artist's highly distinctive and sophisticated style. Hailing from a long lineage of painters, Pissarro's artistic talents were cultivated at an early age. He exhibited his first works at the young age of 14 and later studied in Paris at the École du Louvre and École Normale Supérieure. A 1959 White House commission to paint the portrait of President...
