18th century

About the Item

Expertise by prof. Giancarlo Sestieri. Vincenzo Re (Parma, 1695 – Napoli?, 1762) born in Parma, was an Italian scenic designer who during his career worked initially as an assistant designer and lately as head designer at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. The work is an example of a typical capriccio. It represents an architectural fantasy which depicts the ruins of two temples joined by the archway of a bridge. The archaeological ruins are the backdrop to the main scene; Christ healing a paralytic.
