Cornelis van Cleve, also known as Cornelis van Cleve the Elder, was a Flemish painter active during the 16th century. He was born in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1520 and died there in 1614/. Van Cleve was a member of a prominent family of painters, with his father Joos van Cleve being a well-known artist. Van Cleve was primarily known for his religious and historical paintings. He was influenced by the styles of his contemporaries, including the Italian Renaissance masters. His works often featured delicate brushwork, vibrant colors, and attention to detail. One of Cornelis van Cleve's most famous paintings is "The Last Judgment," which is now housed in the Groeninge museum in Bruges, Belgium.
