A rare mid-19th century Phra Malai illustrated Buddhist Manuscript from Thailand, 19th century
Samut khoi accordion-style folding book with lacquered paper cover, narrating the legend of Buddhist monk Phra Malai, popular in Siam -present day Thailand- within the Theravada Buddhism.
Vivid and detailed hand-painted illustrations chronicling the monk’s adventures,some with delicate gilt accents.
Elegant Khom script on Handmade khoi paper
Note : Such example of exceptional quality and condition is rarely offered on the market as similar examples are mostly kept in monasteries, museums, universities, and private collections.
