About the Item
A beautiful and important 18th century hand colored copperplate engraving of lillies which was most likely designed by Georg Dionysius Ehret (1708-1770) and engraved by Johann Michael Seligmann (1720–1762), entitled "Lilium Persicum" from "Hortus Nitidissimis" authored by Dr. Christoph Jakob Trew (1695-1769) and published in Nuremberg, Germany by Adam Ludwig Wirsing (1733-1797). Although "Hortus Nitidissimis" was actually started by Johann Michael Seligmann, the engravings were based on the collection of flower drawings owned by the botanist and bibliophile Christoph Trew, who was a distinguished physician in Nuremberg. Georg Ehret, who was supported financially by Trew, produced the designs for many of the plates.
This engraving is presented in a gold ribbed museum frame with raised leaves in each corner and a white mat and a gold fillet.
