About the Item
Chevron (Rafter) is a bronze sculpture by French contemporary artist Romain Langlois. In this kind of "trompe l'oeil" work, the artist takes a very mundane object (a roof beam, the kind of which can be found on construction sites) and transforms it into bronze, slightly changing its shape in the process so as to capture our attention and make us wonder what we truly see. With finesse, imposing nothing, Romain Langlois has us questioning our interaction with the environment and the world that surrounds us.
The wood-like textures of his sculptures are obtained in the casting process and the colors through different patinas.

Romain Langlois
Romain Langlois has become known for his unique bronze sculptures, to which he gives an appearance of a rock or wood. His work is not limited to this technical virtuosity: by reproducing objects that he takes from nature, he introduces a poetic twist that rises the ordinary to the rank of extraordinary. His artworks are part of major art collections (Matmut, Fondation Bullukian) and they have been exhibited in museums such as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris, 2017). They are also the subject of ambitious international commissions. “Everything is living, everything is moving, everything is changing. However, life cannot always show its best side; sometimes you have to root it out. This is what I am trying to do with my sculptures, gently, discreetly: to search for the life and expose it to those who are going to view them.’’

Goethe: “Character is formed in the stormy billows of the world.” Taking up life’s tasks can require one to go against the wind. The feeling of determination to achieve and continue steering through obstacles is poured into the pure forms; a dynamic balancing of the straight and curve on different axes. "With a rounded starting point," Pisapia explains, "I add on a variety of disparate angles, diverse curves, and twisting planes. I carve and smooth the surfaces, bringing out particular tensions and transitions." Flavius Valone Pisapia is an Italian-Romanian artist born in Bucharest in 1981. He completed his higher education in the UK, with an MA in Transpersonal Arts & Therapy, 2014; a Diploma in Transformative Arts, 2011; and a BA (Hons) in Film and Video, 2005. Pisapia studied sculpture throughout his higher education and appreciated several sculptor mentors in the UK. He has had several solo exhibitions in India and his artwork is found in private collections worldwide. "It's important for me to experience the world at a deeper level by penetrating the veil of the senses. Through an immersive process the essence, beauty and the pure form of an idea are gradually revealed to me. The emerging awareness flows into my artwork imbuing it with a higher reality. To achieve this awareness in my creative process, I go through three stages: imagination, inspiration and intuition." - Flavius PisapiaCategory
