About the Item
This bronze sculpture of a woman in a chair, is typical of the work of Bruno Lucchese. Born in Italy in 1926, Bruno Lucchesi has been referred to as “the last of the Renaissance sculptors.” Lucchesi divides his time between New York and Italy. A master of figurative sculpture, he is best known for depicting women in the daily moments of life. He states, “I create out of a sense of nostalgia. I make people I like to see, the people I miss, the scenes I remember or imagine.” His women are dreams, the wished-for come to life, and people we would all like to know.
Lucchesi’s work is found in Museum collections, including: Whitney Museum of American Art; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; Brooklyn Museum; Dallas Museum of Fine Art; and Pennsylvania Museum of Fine Art. Among the vast number of awards which have distinguished his illustrious career are two gold medals from the National Academy of Design and one from the National Sculpture Society.
