About the Item
An incredibly ethereal and ultra rare Irene Lentz custom couture vibrant teal green silk chiffon goddess gown dating back to her 1958 collection. Irene Lentz stunned the world in the 1930's, 40's and 50's with her ingeniously constructed, sophisticated, couture-standard garments. After charming Los Angeles society and celestial celebrities with her jaw-dropping custom work at Bullock’s Wilshire, the designer was plucked to helm the illustrious glamour factory of stunning costumes at MGM Studios. The two time Academy Award nominated Irene is best known for her work with Silver Screen Legends Marlene Dietrich, Ingrid Bergman, Lana Turner, Ginger Rogers, and Doris Day. Desiring to offer her designs to women off the screen, she founded the manufacturing company Irene, Inc. with investment support from twenty-five of the nation’s leading department stores.
This glamourous green Grecian-inspired draped dress is a beautiful example of her genius. The bodice has an alluring asymmetric draped design with duel spaghetti straps. I especially love the hourglass nipped waist and front ribbon weave style draping. So incredibly figure flattering! The stylized charm of the flared long peplum overskirt personifies 'Old Hollywood' luxury. These early American couturier pieces are rare, as they were not mass produced and were incredibly expensive to make. This stunning piece of fashion history would make an unforgettable wedding guest or red carpet look.

This iconic 1958 Irene Lentz designer gown is in beautiful wearable condition. The inside is hand-finished and the workmanship is of couture standards. Signs of wear include some light underarm stains, fray to the thin straps and a small patch repair by the bottom hemline which are not noticeable when worn. Please message for detailed pictures. An investment piece that will continue to increase in value from the Ohio State Historical Costumes & Textiles Museum collection.
