Keith Murray Art Deco Vase for Wedgwood

About the Item

A beautiful earthenware vase designed by Keith Murray (New Zealand / British 1892-1981) for Josiah Wedgwood & Sons of the Etruria Works in England. The design was Inspired by Scandinavian design and French Art Deco ceramics. The vase was designed in 1933, given the signature on the bottom of the vase, this piece was manufactured prior to 1940. I believe the vase is shape number 4196 with a pale gray / celadon glaze, having a long cylinder neck with a rolled rim above a globular body with concentric rings. The vase was hand thrown, then the concentric circles were cut with a lathe. The vase is fully marked on the bottom. The shape and glaze are considered rare comparitive to Murray's other work.
