Georgian Mason's Ironstone Dinner Plate Scroll Landscape and Prunus Rare Pattern
About the Item
This is an ironstone pottery dinner plate produced by the Mason's factory at Lane Delph, Staffordshire, England during their initial period of Ironstone production, circa 1818.
The plate or bowl is decorated in one of the rarer chinoiserie patterns, called "Scroll Landscape and Prunus", which shows a small central scroll containing a Chinese landscape with inner and outer borders of flowers and precious objects. The pattern is boldly hand-painted, over-glaze in enamels of aubergine, burnt orange, green, yellow and puce in varying shades, over an aubergine transfer printed under-glaze outline.
This pattern is illustrated on a similar plate on Page 81 of the book; A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, published by The Mason's Collectors' Club.
The base has the single line impressed mark which is recorded as being probably the earliest impressed factory mark, together with a printed large crown and banner mark, indicating a date of circa 1813-1820, making this dinner plate one of the earliest pieces of Mason's, as Ironstone was only produced by them from 1813, which is late George 111 period.
