Italian Mid-20th Century Brass Pendant Lamp or Lantern in Nautical Style
About the Item
A high quality Navy Pendant Lamp, probably made in Italy between the 50s and 60s and purchased by us from a house on the Riviera of Rome, namely Ostia
This vintage pendant was made of solid, full and heavy brass, the splendid hammered chain alone weighs between 2 and 3 kg.
We found it just before leaving the house, as it was totally oxidized and blackened by the sea breeze that had hit it for years in the entrance porch of this seaside villa, but we understood its potential.
After a long polishing job, it is back to shining and reflecting light thanks to its gilded components.
The design of this Mid-20th Century Lantern is typical of the Nautical Style, but I find it perfect also used in a furnishing context totally foreign to the maritime environment.
Full mirror polished brass with a large circular brim that recalls the lamps by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen and which has the function of shielding and directing the light contained in the glass bulb and directing it downwards so as not to blind.
The chandelier has a diameter of 40 cm
The total height is 80cm of which 57cm of chain.
The chandelier is in good vintage condition, showing minimal signs of use and aging.
