About the Item
Architectural oak Pillar nightstands or end tables. Early European modernism inspired - with a hint of Japanese minimalism - always focusing on the beauty of the materials.
Designed by SUM furniture and handcrafted in England using traditional techniques from fully quartersawn English oak. Hand-cut oversized dovetail jointing with turned oak upright pillar piercing through the sections. These can also be used as end tables/stools etc. The nightstands are substantial and striking pieces of handmade furniture - built to last. Finished in durable Osmo oil.
We design bold and distinctive pieces of furniture – our main objective is combining the design alongside the natural beauty and properties of the raw materials. These timbers and materials are very carefully chosen for each specific design - maintaining our focus on the benefits, visual impact and strengths of what we use. Our regular use of English Quartersawn Oak is one case in point. It has been the beloved timber of fine furniture makers across the world for centuries. It is costly to produce but gives huge benefits and rewards such as its striking medullary rays and superb stability qualities. By utilising these wonderful and naturally occurring features with our contemporary designs we aim to continue creating some very distinct, tactile and idiosyncratic pieces. These are all completely handmade, in small sustainable numbers, by our skilled craftspeople in England.
