A sought after first edition of one of the most important sci-fi novels of all time, signed by Arthur C. Clarke to the title page. The first U.S. edition, first printing. Signed by Arthur C. Clarke to a special Arthur C. Clarke bookplate to the title page. In the original unclipped dust wrapper. Arthur C. Clarke was a British science fiction writer and inventor, who is widely regarded as a key figure in the popularisation of space travel. For many years Arthur C. Clarke, along with Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asimov, were considered the 'Big Three' of science fiction writing. His screenplay for the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was co-written with Stanley Kubrick, is considered to be one of the most influential films of all time. This novelised version of the film was published the same year and is based in part on a number of Clarke's short stories, including The Sentinel. Covering a span of over three million years, this novel details the discovery of an alien monolith and the resulting voyage to Jupiter, accompanied by sinister sentient computer HAL. In the original publisher's paper covered boards, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. Very light discolouration to the extremities. Very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Minor edge wear to the dust wrapper, with a small tide mark to the tail of the front wrap. A few light handling marks to the dust wrapper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Overall: Fine
