19th Century Ships Salt Beef Barrel, Oak and Brass Ships Storage Tub A survivor from the 18th Century, this excellent piece would have been used for storing “Salt Beef” the only way at this time that meat could be stored for life at sea The Barrel has a conical oval shape, the heavy brass hinges have an X shape they are very thick and still work well The barrel is in good condition considering its age, it is original and untampered with or adapted in any way, there has been an extra piece of wood added to the bottom to strengthen it otherwise it is in original condition, and has all its brass Hinges, bands, hooks and hasp Very rare, in good attractive used condition, this piece will adorn any room with a Seafaring Theme, it is 29” high and 27” wide and 22” across TWD107.
