About the Item

Astonishing 1800's Shariatmadari Qashqai, Tribal Persian Rug 7' x 9' 3" This breathtaking rarity was hand woven by the lesser known Shariatmadari family of Shiraz. These weavers are descendants of the renown Qashqai tribe. They once distinguished themselves separately from the Qashqai tribe many 100's of years ago and eventually in the late 1800's assimilated with the rapidly growing area of Shiraz. Examples of these pieces are nearly non existent outside of private collections, so it is an honor for us to be able show this piece and hope to find a loving home for it. Comprised entirely of Persian wool that was raised, sheared, dyed, spun and woven just south of Shiraz in the latter half of the 19th century. The dyes featured in this piece are all natural, as is consistent of rugs of this period. Due to it's age this rug's once vibrant colors have softened due to its age and exposure to the desert for many years. These factors have attributed to its beautiful rusty tones that are complimented with gold and incredibly deep navy tones. Despite it's intricate tribal, floral motifs incorporated though out the rugs composition, it is still perfectly balanced. Their are plenty of details to get lost in, even though its presence on the floor is subtle, it is still an amazing focal point that can go with any decor and interior. Despite this rugs being 150 years old, it is in immaculate shape. There is no apparent damage and is in its original condition. It's pile is low but even. Rugs of this age were not woven to be sold for profit and few of these examples still exist. Due to its age we can infer that this is a one of a kind creation of the individual who wove it. Despite being over 100 years of age this rug is in incredible condition. very little restorative work has been done to this piece in hopes to preserve its original charm. This is an heirloom piece that has spent most of its time on the wall being admired for generations. It is are hope that it can find a new home where it can be appreciated for generations to come.
