Georgian 18th Century Oak Dresser Base
About the Item
A Good Quality, Attractive, Late 18th Century English George III Period Oak Dresser Base, Having Well Figured Top Over Three Drawers With Crossbanded Decoration And Replacement Brass Handles, Over Elegant Shaped Frieze And Square Tapered Legs.
A fabulous example of an 18th century dresser base, which is suitable for a huge variety of different spaces and uses around the home, both modern and historic. It would work wonderfully in a hallway along the wall, or similar on a landing, or alternatively as a sideboard in a kitchen or dining room, or even on the back of a settee in a more formal room. We have even known people to use them upstairs in a bedroom when they have a large amount of wall space to fill.
There is very little damage to speak of, certainly nothing visually unappealing, or which causes a structural problem and although the brass handles are replacements they look more than acceptable and actually sit very nicely on the piece indeed. They have clearly been in situ for a very long time indeed. Its also worth noting that the dresser retains a lovely rich, warm colour and patina.
As with all items which we offer for sale this dresser base has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our trained antique furniture restorers, where it has recieved a natural wax polish to ensure it is ready for immediate placement within the home environment.

- Georgian 18th Century Potboard Dresser BaseLocated in Bedfordshire, GBAn Attractive And Very Good Quality Late 18th Century, George III Period, Oak Dresser Base Of Good Colour And Patina Throughout, Having Three Frieze Drawers With Replacement Knobs, Over Elegant Turned Upright Supports With Original Potboard Shelf And Rare Panelled Back Below. As suggested by the name the original purpose of a potboard shelf was to store all manner of pots and pans. These pots and pans were often still wet, very heavy, or possibly still hot when placed back onto the storage shelf and this is the reason that we regularly find potboard shelves damaged beyond repair, or in rather ugly condition visually. No such problem with this particular piece however, it has a perfectly functioning and attractive potboard shelf which has an extremely rare panelled back to it, something we have only seen once or twice before. This dresser base is a good size, not overpoweringly large, whilst at the same time being perfect for a wide ranging variety of spaces around the home, due to its narrow proportions amongst other things. It is also of coursevery attractive and retains a good colour and patina which is a consequence of years and years of hard graft...Category
