Original vintage anti-religious communist propaganda poster entitled Крест и Трактор / Cross and Tractor featuring a cartoon style design by Mikhail Cheremnykh (1890-1962) based on a poem by Demyan Bedny (1883-1945) about peasant exploitation by the Orthodox Church in Tsarist Russia and their brighter prospects under Soviet rule depicting a farmer with a cross tied to his back as he ploughs a field with a horse below an image of people having tea at a table from a samovar above, the priest being knocked off his chair by the man's cross as he looks down at a modern tractor worker below. Fair condition, restored significant loss in the bottom left corner, restored folds and tears, backed on linen.
