Unusual Sterling Indian Chief Hat Pin
About the Item
Unusual Sterling Indian Chief Hat Pin from the late 19th Century. Native American motifs were a popular theme with silverware and jewelry manufacturers at the end of the 19th Century.
Companies such as Unger Brothers N.J. were especially adept at bringing new ideas and novelty motifs into their various lines.
This hat pin features a ruddy faced, Indian chief with feather plumage. The feathers have been pushed in slightly at an angle, but, this is not highly noticeable. Originally they probably stood straight up on his head.
Signed "Sterling" on base, with no makers mark, although the design is very reminiscent of Unger Brothers Co. designs.
1890's USA.
