“Vintage pieces are always nonnegotiable for me,” Jake Arnold declares. “They add soul to a space.” Though not quite 35 years old, the British-born, Los Angeles–based cofounder of The Expert and author of Redefining Comfort (Rizzoli) has parlayed a business degree and an impeccable eye for sensuous materials and sculptural furniture into a dazzling portfolio of product collaborations and celebrity interiors. For the primary bedroom in the Benedict Canyon home of John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, Arnold created a “layered look through the use of monochromatic textures, with a custom wall color that reflects and amplifies the beauty of natural light.” In a counterpoint to the rectilinear forms of a vintage trunk and a grid inset with chinoiserie wallpaper, elegant curves grace the room, from the contemporary bed and Anna Karlin’s 2022 patinated-brass-plated chaise to vintage nightstands with silhouettes that evoke Streamline Art Deco designs. Arnold topped the last with vintage Venini Murano-glass table lamps from rewire. “They have a handmade quality to them, as the glass pattern is uniquely distinct on each one,” he remarks. “They also emit the most calming light, and the primary bedroom in a home is always a space I want to feel inviting and relaxing.”
