Jeremiah Brent Design
Moody Hues

The way sunlight begins to dim as the day gives way to night informed the design of a Watch Hill, Rhode Island, living room by Jeremiah Brent. While he celebrated morning brightness in other areas of the house, “the formal living room, bold and textured, represents dusk,” says Brent, who enlisted Athena Calderone as a consultant on the project. But twilight wasn’t his only point of reference. “You’ll find unexpected interpretations throughout everything we do — one example being that the color palette for this room was, truthfully, inspired by a bruise,” Brent says. The dark custom plaster walls provide a dramatic background for a pair of Federico Munari chairs sourced from PRB through 1stDibs that, Brent says, “really completed the room. We needed a silhouette and fabric that felt delicate enough to balance the room’s architectural scale.” Just behind them is a collection of vintage pottery, which the designer calls “an accessory that will always bring sculptural texture into a space. I can’t tell you how much I love sorting through the variety of similar accent pieces on 1stDibs.” Nearby, a patinaed-brass ceiling pendant by Nicolas Aubagnac hovers above a seeded glass coffee table by Courtney Applebaum from Seventh House, their circular forms reminiscent of the perfect orb of the setting sun.
