For the dining room of an apartment in a prewar Art Deco building on New York’s Upper East Side, Nate Berkus relied on select vintage and contemporary standouts to set a graceful tone. Two Murano-glass and brass pendants, from 1stDibs seller Cosulich Interiors & Antiques, preside over the room. A set of dining chairs with hand-stitched seats and leather-wrapped legs, meanwhile, “were love at first sight for everyone involved,” says Berkus, who runs his eponymous firm with partner Lauren Buxbaum Gordon. “They’re reminiscent of Jacques Adnet and are more comfortable than you can imagine.” He placed Swedish mid-century lamps on the custom Art Deco marble-top console table from Casa Botelho, found on 1stDibs. “Our firm predominantly specs vintage furniture and lighting for our projects,” explains the designer, who is both a 1stDibs shopper and a seller. “The uniqueness, reference to a specific time period, patination and art-like quality they bring to interiors are incredibly important to us.” Even though the room contains several contemporary pieces, Berkus says, “everything has a vintage reference, from Adnet to Barovier to Mastercraft.”
