Rustic Refinement with a Scandi Twist

How do interior designers live? For Molly Kidd, who left the 1stDibs 50 firm Light and Dwell to launch her namesake studio last year, the answer is delightfully simple. In her new home in the Oregon countryside — which she shares with her young family and a small herd of adorable baby goats — the interior designer embraces what she calls “an ethos of quality over quantity, and a balance of vintage and new.” In the living room, with its creamy Venetian-plaster walls, Kidd repositioned the fireplace to serve as a centered focal point, adding a limestone mantel that reads as both classical and modern. Linen upholstery and draperies along with a contemporary walnut coffee table and rustic milking stool, bring texture and patina to her Pacific Northwest palette. Vintage Scandinavian designs add soul and comfort. “I love the detailing and the richness of the oak,” she says of a mid-century credenza attributed to the Danish designer Henning Kjærnulf upon which she displays a 1930s pagoda-shaped brass desk lamp by Leroy C. Doane, both pieces found on 1stDibs. “And I’ve had this Scandinavian sheepskin chair for years, and it only gets more beautiful with wear.”
