Rising - Surreal Landscape with Row of Trees and Owl, Oil on Panel
Located in Chicago, IL
The pristine, symmetrical and orderly landscape brings an unnatural stillness to John Hrehov's painting entitled "Rising". The owl is central to the sparse landscape peeking out of it's home in the tree. Straight lines and geometric patterns are used to compose a glossy concept of reality. "Sur la Terrace” Oil Painting 25.5" x 25.5" inch by Katherine Bakhoum Tisné
Located in Culver City, CA
"Sur la Terrace” Oil Painting 25.5" x 25.5" inch by Katherine Bakhoum Tisné Katherine Bakhoum represents art that has been forgotten for a long while. She draws upon the concept and the subject of the orientalism and the enchantment of that period. Through her work we can feel the researches she has done to reveal her Egyptian origins and the magic and power of the bygone times. Katherine Bakhoum has succeeded in imprinting her own stamp to evoke a new world full of charm, nostalgia and magic that is deeply implanted in her canvas. Her power dwells in creating her own style of contemporary expressionism building upon the old orientalism. Katherine Bakhoum’s art comes up out of an Egyptian childhood and from the distance of a life spent in France. What is left unsaid is as important as what is shown. Decorative yes, as in old orientalism, when everything was texture and what wasn’t texture was veiled, a reincarnation of old spirits, dervishes, orientalist motifs and the stuff of a once powerful civilization, the better to suggest it all might just come to life again. The choice of ancient subject matters, the echo of orientalist pieces in the collages, like the echo of the appeal of ancient gestures, of foreign lands, and domestic tapestries, all this weaves up out of Katherine Bakhoum’s creations. Sometimes we only have the line of a horizon on which to hang our imagination, sometimes we only have the trace of a profile in the shadows. What we always have is a persistent belief in beauty. Where there is beauty, there is hope. Katherine Bakhoum has abandoned neither. "Impending Storm" by Sandra Pratt, Oil Painting, Abstracted Landscape
Located in Denver, CO
Sandra Pratt's "Impending Storm," created with oil on linen panel, is a captivating landscape painting measuring 8 x 16 inches (20.32 x 40.64 cm). This original artwork captures the dramatic atmosphere of an approaching storm over a serene landscape. Pratt's technique with oil paint creates a rich texture and depth, bringing the landscape to life. The painting showcases a dynamic sky filled with swirling clouds, contrasted against the earthy tones of the land and the shimmering waters. The use of bold brushstrokes and a muted color palette conveys a sense of movement and impending change, capturing the viewer's attention and drawing them into the scene. "Impending Storm" is an excellent example of contemporary landscape painting, blending realism with expressive brushwork. This piece is perfect for collectors who appreciate the beauty and power of nature depicted through skilled artistry. The painting is sold unframed and will require a frame to hang. We are happy to provide framing quotes upon request. This piece will add a touch of dramatic elegance to any collection, reflecting Sandra Pratt's unique vision and technical prowess. Artist Statement: My work is inspired by my emotional response to places I've seen and experienced. In particular, the contrasts of light and dark. I enjoy using a palette knife for the immediate bold statement it offers. I started painting as a young child and studied for a while at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago but ultimately decided to be a self-taught artist, My style of painting is called abstract impressionism. I work Alla Prima, wet into wet, not reworking a picture that has dried. I started using the palette knife to do color charts, then kept using it for immediate effects and fun texture. The challenge is making the whole painting cohesive enough in a single session, which can be a fun challenge working big!. I paint intuitively, and I enjoy painting landscapes best, scenes all people can relate to at a fundamental level, green fields in Ireland, Paris alleys, and little white barns. I'm drawn to old structures, falling down barns, fences, and houses. I love the sense of history, fragility, and secrets they exude. Artists I'm inspired by are Edward Seago, Kyffin Williams, Nicolai Fechin, and Sergei Bogart. These painters have a very particular style and handle of paint manipulation I find fascinating. My color palette has simplified over time. I've experimented with many colors; my basic palette is usually around seven colors plus white. I like creating color harmony, so the focus is on shape, composition, and edges, although colorful paintings have a place in my work. Overall, I intend to show my viewers simplicity in art and create transcendent experiences. My work has been exhibited at the Brattleboro Museum in Vermont, with the Allied Artists of America in NY, and at the A.R. Mitchell Museum and the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art in Colorado. I'm from Chicago, IL, and currently live in the mountains of Colorado with my incredible husband, two kids, cattle dog...

Sunburst, Rising Sun - Reflective Golden Clouds, Marshy Landscape, Original Oil
Located in Chicago, IL
The rising sun casts a reflective glow onto the puffy clouds hanging over a marshy landscape resulting in a sky that is awash in tones of blue and gold. This beautiful combination is reflected on the water below creating an enchanting romantic scene in Rose Freymuth Frazier's landscape painting entitled "Sunburst". Her technique of using loose brush strokes and layers of paint give this scene depth and dimension. The painting is framed with a decorative wooden frame measuring 17 x 21 inches. Rose Freymuth-Frazier Sunburst oil on panel 12h x 24w in 30.48h x 60.96w cm RFF051 Rose Freymuth-Frazier Employing the techniques of the past in the service of contemporary exploration, I seek to add a fresh voice to the sometimes venerable, sometimes dusty and archaic tradition of large-scale figurative painting, while subtly addressing the mythology, objectification and subjugation of women. My subjects are at first glance close to home-new mothers, friends, lovers, artists, dancers-but are then quickly placed at a distance via edgy modification, rigorous technique, minimal contexts and composition, and idiosyncratic use of color. I am also interested in social presentation, artifice, and simulation as they relate to my subjects. I hope to peel away a gossamer thin layer of reality, not just to document the real but also to reveal what might be. BIOGRAPHY Given my restless history, it is curious that I became a figurative painter in New York City. My maternal Grandparents fled Hitler's Germany in the late 1930's. After being refused entry to the United States, they were welcomed into the Dominican Republic, where they happily resided in a small orderly bungalow of their own design and made their living as studio photographer and cheese maker for seven years. Amid this exotic island milieu, my mother was born. Similarly, my fraternal grandparents, he being a US medic stationed in New Zealand and she, a seventeen year old Kiwi, met just long enough in the back of an ambulance in the early 1940's for her to come to the US on a steamer eighteen months later with their nine-month-old baby boy: my father. My eventual parents found each other in Nevada City, California, a small Gold Rush town flanked by a river and nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. There they fashioned a life according to their own rules and beliefs, free from the rigid standards of mainstream society. I was born on the floor of an old miner's cabin on a frigid November night in 1977. The midwife, who had learned the art of delivering babies while assisting her grandfather across the moors of Scotland, lived atop an icy ridge, did not own a telephone, and was summoned just in time. She made her living as a welder and considered her midwifery skill a gift. She refused to take money for her services. As payment, my mother, a ceramic sculptor, crafted her a large salad bowl with which to catch future placentas. So for the price of a handcrafted, multi-use salad bowl, (my first brush with art), I came into the world. I grew up in a free-spirited, idyllic wilderness until my existence was reported to the authorities in the form of a birth certificate. At eight years old, after some home schooling and experimental education, I was finally sent to public school. By sixteen I left the small town and moved in with my older brother who lived by the sea. A year later I applied and was accepted to the Interlochen Arts Academy in Northern Michigan where I spent my senior year of high school. At eighteen years old, I came to New York City on a scholarship to study theater. The city dazzled me, but after completing the term of study-and perhaps echoing my mother's flight from Barnard on a motorcycle years before-I headed back west, this time to Los Angeles where I landed in a Hollywood Boulevard youth hostel. It was in the culturally diverse atmosphere of Southern California, amid the palms, cars, and birds of paradise that I began to paint. In a twist of fate that only Hollywood could deliver, I was "discovered" stuck in traffic on Ventura Boulevard and given a record deal, (although I was not a singer). For six months I was under contract as "Ruby Blonde" and was paid to do nothing. Mercifully, the album was never made but I chose to use the free time and money to paint. Inspired by trips through Mexico and Guatemala, I fashioned giant faces from memory, which I painted on oversized pieces of scavenged plywood. I found the act of painting both hypnotic and meditative. So I returned to New York, (via Argentina), to further pursue the serious study of figurative painting technique. We know that in the past realism was discredited as kitsch and blamed for it's ability to appeal to and affect the masses. This inherent accessibility is the reason I choose to paint in the realist tradition. Entrata Severa, Architectural Gardenscape Inspired by Ancient Roman Frescos
Located in Chicago, IL
Inspired by the ancient trompe l'oeil roman frescos of the Villa di Livia, this gardenscapes by artist Carol Pylant focuses on the most deteriorated and weathered sections of the frescos. Amidst the flora, the artist inserts an architectural element, an ode to her travels and teaching in Italy. By combining the present with the past, the artist continues her exploration of our spiritual and concrete connections with the ancient world. This piece is framed measuring 25.5h x 25.5w inches. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of March 24, 1911 - Original Oil Painting
Located in Chicago, IL
March 25th, 1911, Greenwich village, Manhattan, New York. The epitome of sweatshop labor, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory was a harsh and grueling workplace. During a time of large movements for workers, women rights, and talks of labor unions, the owners of the factory were overly strict and frugal. The approximately 500 employees working that day on the 8th, 9th, and 10th floor of the Asch Building were working in rows of sewing machines and flammable materials with all exit doors locked. Just before quitting time a fire started on the 8th floor, probably from a cigarette, spread rapidly and consumed most of the top 3 floors. It was difficult for the panicked employees to escape because the stairwell doors were locked, the elevators saved many people’s lives until they became inoperable, and the rear fire escape eventually became overloaded and collapsed. Some resorted to jumping from the windows. In the aftermath 146 people perished and 78 were injured, mostly women. Uscita - Large Scale Trompe L'oeil Gardenscape Inspired by Ancient Roman Frescos
Located in Chicago, IL
"Uscita" takes Inspiration from ancient Italian frescos originally found at the Villa di Livia outside of Rome. The trompe l'oeil frescos were from a subterranean room used for dining. The lush gardens gave the dinner guests the illusion of dining alfresco. Here Pylant took particular notice of the flora and fauna painted over 2000 years ago only to discover they were species that were also present at her then North Carolina studio. The artist adds an architectural element to the gardenscape to suggest a portal from the past into the present. This exploration of the ancient world and its connection to the present is a central theme running through Pylant's work. Carol S. Quiet Evening - Setting Sun and Rising Moon, Reflective and Romantic Colors
Located in Chicago, IL
The sky is in in that in-between stage where the setting sun casts its golden rays upon the sky and the rising moon is peaking through. This combination creates a haze of golds purples and blues across the vast sky in Rose Freymuth Frazier's landscape painting entitled "Quiet Evening". Rose's technique of using loose brush strokes and layers of paint give this scene depth and dimension. Rose Freymuth-Frazier Quiet Evening oil on panel 16h x 20w in 40.64h x 50.80w cm RFF040 Rose Freymuth-Frazier Employing the techniques of the past in the service of contemporary exploration, I seek to add a fresh voice to the sometimes venerable, sometimes dusty and archaic tradition of large-scale figurative painting, while subtly addressing the mythology, objectification and subjugation of women. Life - New York City Original Aerial View Oil Painting on Canvas by Albert Vidal
Located in Chicago, IL
This painting of New York City's Chrysler Building captures a wide swath of Manhattan from an areal view. Using palette knife and brush Albert Vidal manages to combine realist painting with abstraction. Splashes of bright blue, red and green paint graffiti the surface in a Jackson Pollack like effect. The numbers at the bottom of the painting represent the artist's signature. This artwork is framed in a simple black wood float. Albert Vidal Life, 2015 oil on linen 52h x 52w in Albert Vidal is an aerial urban landscapes painter based in Barcelona, Spain. He has painted mostly landscapes from around the world for over 20 years and is inspired by artists such as Antonio Lopez Garcia and Anselm Kiefer. The artist thinks about his compositions in a three dimensional way with paint relief that creates dimension and body in the piece. The emptiness which represents a sea or wasteland keep the balance of the composition as well as the ensemble. The artificial space Vidal creates evolves over time and explores the difference between cities, urban planning, and their structures. INDIVIDUAL EXIBITIONS albert vidal February. Little Blue Houses - Oil Still Life Landscape with Rural and Urban Symbolism
Located in Chicago, IL
Mark Bowers- Artist Statement With the depiction of landscape playing such a central role in the history of North American art, it seemed to offer many of the critical possibilities I was looking for, and it felt more and more like something I have always known. Something I could easily apply, stage, and manipulate as a diary. My work consists of small-scale highly detailed landscape paintings. They are inspired by the comfort, trepidation, and beauty found in the mundane Chicago Suburbs. I combine nature, decorative house wares, municipal structures, and personal artifacts to hint at current life and future implications in the orchestration of these elements. Each work in the series is a portrait of a search for markers on a journey, an attempt to learn from what is palpable and to appreciate the intangible. The paintings are meant to suggest the truth in the un-idealized moment--the actual truth only exists off the edges of my canvas, off stage, and in the experience of the viewer. Painting the objects in these compositions is like positioning characters on stage in a play, each adding to the dramatization Mark Bowers Little Blue Houses oil on panel 15h x 30w in 38.10h x 76.20w cm MJB008 Mark Bowers b. 1977 St. Joseph, MI Exhibitions 2013 American Painting Today: Physical and Visceral, Krasl Art Center, St. Joseph, MI 2012 Fort Wayne Art Museum, Contemporary Realism Biennial, Fort Wayne, IN Rockford Art Museum Midwestern Biennial, Rockford, IL Ann Brierly Gallery, Winnetka, IL 2009 Art Chicago, Represented by Ann Nathan Gallery, Merchandise Mart, Chicago, IL Ann Brierly Gallery, Winnetka, IL 2007 Beverly Arts Center Biennial, Chicago, IL Ann Brierly Gallery, Winnetka, IL 2005 Ann Brierly Gallery, Winnetka, IL 2003 Ann Brierly Gallery, Winnetka, IL Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI 2001 The Box Factory Gallery, St. Joseph, MI 2000 John G. Grant Tyson Reynard was an accomplished American who gained an international reputation as a painter, printmaker, teacher and writer. He was born in Grand Island, Nebraska 20th October 1887 to Stephen Blackstone and Jennie Lynd Reynard. His father ran a music store and was also the manager of the Grand Island Opera House. As a youngster Grant would sketch the well-known people who visited the community. He had an early appreciation of music, sang well and originally trained as a pianist. However, he chose to pursue a career in the visual arts, studying at the Art Institute of Chicago, 1906-7, working in the days and studying at night, and then the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts 1908-1911. In 1914 he moved to New Jersey to become a freelance illustrator, and attended summer classes in illustration organised by Harvey Dunn. It was here that he also met and became lifelong friends with John Steuart Curry, Charles Chapman, Mahonri Young and Harry Wickey, all prominent artists. He maintained a studio at Leonia, New Jersey for many years. He quickly established himself as a top illustrator, contributing to major publications of his day, including Rednook Magazine (where he was also the Art Editor), The Saturday Evening Post, Harper’s Bazaar, Collier’s, Ladies’ Home Journal, Country Gentleman, McCalls and Cosmopolitan. His increasing interest in painting and etching took him to the chief centres of study in Europe, especially Paris and London. From 1926 through to 1937 he was a fellow of the MacDowell colony in Petersborough, New Hampshire. Reynard was elected a member of the National Academy of Design and the American Watercolor Society. He was the president of the Montclair Art Museum, and served six years on the faculty of the Grand Central School of Art, New York. He also conducted the Department of Art at Millbrook School, Millbrock, New York, and was artist-in-residence at Palo Duro School of Art in Texas. In 1955 Baldwin-Wallace College awarded him an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (LHD). Over the years Reynard’s focus shifted from illustration work to his own creative work, but in addition to producing his own art he also lectured in art and taught at several difference schools. Although he travelled extensively he remained loyal to his roots, returning to Nebraska every summer to conduct lectures and art classes in Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island, Kearney and North Platte. In 1941 Reynard published a book of his poems “Rattling Home for Christmas” which he also illustrated. He remained deeply involved in music, always being a skilled pianist, as well as literature, and his prints often depicted concert halls and museums. Grant Reynard...
