About the Item

Louis BENTABOLE An artist whose work is quite rare but whose talent is undeniable. His work stands out amongst many of the paintings in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. An opportunity to acquire a wonderful example of his work. Canvas size: 15 x 18" (37.5 x 48cm) Outside frame size: 23 x 26" (57.5 x 65cm) French School Born in Paris in 1822 where he died in 1880. Bentabole was a painter of marines and landscapes that featured river scenes. He studied under Eugene Isabey whose influence is very evident. Like Isabey, Bentabole often painted scenes just off the coast but Bentabole’s style is a lot more precise and accurate. He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1847 with ‘The Abandoned Fishing Boat’ which was followed in 1848 with ‘Return to Port’. He continued exhibiting until his death in 1880. His works can be found in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and the Museums of Reims, Rouen and La Rochelle.
