1975

About the Item

Lithograph, 1975 Handsigned by the artist in pencil and numbered 80/100 Publisher : Fundacio Joan Miro (Barcelone) Printer : La Poligrafa S.A. (Barcelone) Catalog : Maeght 1034 56.00 cm. x 75.50 cm. 22.05 in. x 29.72 in. (paper) This lithograph is one of Joan Miró's many tributes to his friend Joan Prats. Prats is known as an artistic promoter of the avant-garde, having devoted exhibitions to Miró, Calder, Dali and Picasso. The Catalan man was one of the main initiators of the Fundacion Miró in Barcelona, thanks to a major donation. He was first a pupil in Francesco Gali's studio between 1912 and 1915, the same period as Joan Miró. Both men were also members of the St Luc art circle from 1913. When the Spanish Civil War broke out, they even shared an apartment in Paris. In this work, Miró draws, as he likes to do, free forms, linear and curved, to reveal the inner movements of the human psyche. In this way, he develops complex abstract compositions in intense black, contrasting sharply with the white background. The shades of grey, the fine stars and brushstrokes, the splashes and strokes of black that underpin the whole composition, gradually reveal the depth of the artist's mind. A few discreet touches of color illuminate this energetic and moving pictorial dance. Miró's intention is clear when admiring this work: "I always feel the need to achieve maximum intensity with minimum means". Certificate of authenticity LCD6102
