Pucci foliage print wool challis ensemble. circa 1970

About the Item

Emilio Pucci, one of the first international stars of Italian fashion, was inseparable from his kaleidoscopic textiles designs. This important print however has historical relevance. It is a rare example of Pucci abandoning his signature geometric and opt-art patterns for a figurative print design. Pucci’s printed signature, blue and lime sea anemones with fuchsia and olive seaweeds together create a lively and vibrant seabed. The print also acts as a focal point for this featherweight wool ensemble. Indeed the waist of the short crisscrossed bodice is enhanced with a band printed with sea-anemones that ends into a belt and fastens at the back. This motif is repeated at the hem of the skirt to create a modern A-lined silhouette. Characteristics of Pucci’s design vernacular, the ensemble is soft. Weight and volume are minimised by the elimination of lining and paddings. The skirt fastened on the side with a zip and stud buttons. Stylist notes: This piece offers sophistication and cachet. The ensemble is versatile. Combined with high heels sandals and costume jewellery for a modern and feminine look.
