Japanese Meiji Period Famille Jaune Porcelain Charger- Yamatoku

About the Item

A brightly coloured Famille Jaune porcelain charger plate. Handcrafted in Japan around the end of the nineteenth century, during the Meiji era. The large decorative plate depicts a brightly coloured figural scene, conveying a sense of springtime and new beginnings: A plum blossom, brimming with fruit, supports a loving pair of plump birds sitting carefully on its old branches. Rich jewel-like tones of turquoise, pink, and yellow contrast beautifully against a white, underglazed sky, bringing feelings of joy and contentment. The porcelain plate is stamped on its underside with 'Yamatoku Kiln'. The Yamatoku Kiln was situated in Saga Prefecture on the island of Kyushu. It was notable for its vivid and colourful porcelain pieces and was active between 1868 and 1912. A wonderful piece of Japanese history and craftsmanship, ready to be hung and displayed on your wall.
