Japanese Antique Hanging Lantern/Casting Brass with Cherry Blossom
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
This is a cast brass lantern made in Japan from the Taisho period to the early Showa period (1900-1950). You can see that it is very finely decorated. It has a mesh pattern like a Japanese bamboo basket and has a cherry blossom petal design here and there. A very Japanese and beautiful design. It's very nice just to hang it with a chain, but you can also put a light bulb in it if you do the wiring work. There is a hole in the top of the head, so you can pass the wiring through that part. It's very nice to put it on the table and use it like a table lamp. No damage, good condition, ready to use. It is a recommended dish. There are very few shops in 1stdibs that carry such nice lanterns. We sell with...

Hard to find this quality today for the discerning garden or sculpture collection Lifetime guarantee of authenticity. About Japanese lanterns. Japan’s lantern tradition is a concept that was imported from India and has existed in Japanese temples and gardens since the 7th century. They were originally conceived as entrance lighting and guardians to temples and pagodas and when lit served as an offering to Buddha. Some of the earliest stone lanterns were carved with Buddhist images on the firebox and usually had compartments for an oil lamp or candle. Later on, they became more secular in nature, and their use evolved as functional and decorative elements in traditional Japanese tea...
