This is a cast brass lantern made in Japan from the Taisho period to the early Showa period (1900-1950). You can see that it is very finely decorated. It has a mesh pattern like a Japanese bamboo basket and has a cherry blossom petal design here and there. A very Japanese and beautiful design. It's very nice just to hang it with a chain, but you can also put a light bulb in it if you do the wiring work. There is a hole in the top of the head, so you can pass the wiring through that part. First we've seen Japan, a fine antique hand cast bronze round lantern with unique "champleve” enameled maple leaves - an orb with exquisite details from the Taisho period. It is one of the finest we have handled in recent years. Champleve enamels include blue, white, green, and white colors. Pair (2) of rare heavy hand cast iron "Ikebana flower" incised panel form lanterns with distinctive "12 petal" tops. An attractive and sturdy antique lantern pair with a distinct eastern thematic "ikebana flower" motif carved into five firebox side panels. The startling sinewy plant motif strongly suggest Asian ikebana. The round tops were cleverly designed with 12 flower petals.
