Giuseppe Rivadossi for Officina Rivadossi Sideboard in Walnut

About the Item

Giuseppe Rivadossi for Officina Rivadossi, sideboard, walnut, Italy, 1980s Giuseppe Rivadossi once again proves his great eye for materialization and technicality that this design is exemplary for. The sideboard is constructed using wooden panels secured to each other through wooden joints. This technical aspect of the structure makes it not only necessary for the stability, but also has a strong visual impact on the design itself and showcases the high-level of craftsmanship this piece has been made with. The wooden surface visualizes the artist’s hand and his movement to treat the wood with the use of intensive hand-planed and trimmed techniques. A real masterpiece that will stand the test of time and serve as a standout in one's interior. Giuseppe Rivadossi (1935) was born in Monteclana di Nave, Italy, where he still lives and works. At a young age, Rivadossi's path begins with wood carving, with works reflecting on his poetic idea of living. In 1962, Rivadossi took over the carpentry founded in 1920 by his father Clemente, which he transformed into an atelier, or rather a creative workshop. Eventually, Rivadossi and collaborators established 'Officina Rivadossi' in 1976 where he started the manufacture of wooden objects and unique modern furniture. Kindly note that this item is in good, used condition.

  • Santee Sideboard Cabinet in Walnut
    By Greg Mitchell
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
The namesake of this piece is an alley one block from our Los Angeles studio, known for its bazaar-like display of stalls hawking clothes and textiles at wholesale prices. The scene is reminiscent of markets in Central America and, walking through it during breaks from the shop, one feels instantly transported out of the US. It's a hectic environment, however, and the Santee Sideboard is a meditation on minimalism in answer to the raucous consumerism taking place below. We take great care in selecting the sustainably harvested lumber for every piece. Each panel of the cabinet, once milled and joined, is polished with well tuned hand planes...
