Nasty Gal

Office by Bestor Architecture in Los Angeles, CA

Nasty Gal is a global online destination for fashion-forward, free-thinking girls. In 2006, founder Sophia Amoruso started an eBay store selling a highly curated selection of vintage pieces. In just five short years, the shop has grown to become an international style source offering both new and vintage clothing, shoes, and accessories. Bestor Architecture’s challenge was to create one, cohesive creative office that spans three stitched together historic buildings in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Nasty Gal’s 50,000 sf offices are housed in the adaptive re-use of the culturally significant Pacific Mutual Building, a 460,000 sf campus of three interconnected buildings. The design included preserving historic architectural elements such as cast concrete-clad trusses, brick, steel windows, concrete columns, marble flooring while stripping the existing, very cellular and subdivided space to open up and accommodate an egalitarian/democratic work space and floor plan.
