PABLO PICASSO (1881-1973) Hibou rouge sur fond noir (A.R. 399) stamped, marked and numbered 'Madoura Plein Feu / Edition Picasso / N 103 / Edition Picasso / 1/150 / Madoura' (underneath) terracotta bowl, partially engraved, with colored engobe and glaze Diameter: 17-3/4 in. (45.2 cm.) Conceived on 10 May 1957 and executed in a numbered edition of 150 Over the course of two decades, Pablo Picasso created over 3,500 unique and editioned ceramic works fired in clay. Picasso´s ceramic works were rarely studied or appreciated during his lifetime. However, in recent years his ceramis have enjoyed broader recognition for their inventiveness and originality, showcasedin museum exhibitions, sold at auction ans colected with fervet enthusiasm.

    After Alessandro Algardi (Bologna, 1585 - Roma,1654) YOUNG HERCULES, Italy, 18th Century terracotta 44 x 25 x 25 cm 17 1/4 x 9 3/4 x 9 3/4 in This lovely sculpture represents the young Hercules, seated with his legs crossed, gently holding a bird with his right hand, raised in the air, while supporting his own weight with his left hand. The artwork refers to the notorious Roman sculpture of the young Hercules killing the snakes sent by Hera, exhibited at the Capitoline Museums in Rome. Academics have identified the young emperor Caracalla or, more recently, Annio Vero, son of the emperor Marcus Aurelius, in the portrait of the sculpture.
