No damage and missing Label. Good colour and condition. Iconography: similar dress in Joaquim Sorella's painting Elena Sorella à la tunique jaune 1909. Dimensions: Equivalent size 36-38 France. Height 142 cm, shoulders 39 cm, chest 87-90 cm, waist 68-74 cm, sleeves 30 cm, hips 92-100 cm. Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo (1871 - 1949), of Spanish origin, designed opera sets before settling in Venice in 1889 at the Palazzo Orfei. In Paris in 1910, he patented a system of dyeing and printing on fabrics, followed by a type of undulating pleated garment for women, the Delphos dress, inspired by the Aurige of Delphi. In 1919, he opened a factory producing printed fabrics on the Giudecca in Venice, and soon enjoyed huge success as an interior decorator and fashion designer. At 67, rue Pierre Charon in Paris, he sold fabrics and garments with Renaissance, Byzantine, Coptic, Arab, Persian and Indian motifs, which in his mind corresponded to specific shapes: tunics, burnous, djellabas, caftans... Isadora Duncan wore her Delphos barefoot, followed by Sarah Bernhar.

  • Open This End Cotton Screen Print Dress by Andy Warhol (in the style of) C. 1970
    By Andy Warhol
    Located in Toulon, FR
Circa 1970-1980 USA or England Iconic Open This End Screen Print cotton dress by Andy Warhol (1928-1987) dating from the first reeditions of the 1970s. As in the original 1962 paper work, the blood-red paint smudges and defects are clearly visible.  The printed cotton bias on the neck and sleeves is also true to the original paper one. The background is a cheap unbleached cotton. Trace of a label cut on the collar, this could be a Mr Feedom (?) manufacture in England circa 1971. All seams are machine sewn. Exceptionally good condition. Probably never worn. A rare collector's item. Dimensions: Equivalent size 38 France. Height 103 cm, range sleeve to sleeve 83 cm, chest 90-95 cm, waist 87-90 cm, hips 95-100 cm. Amplitude bottom of dress 130 cm Open This End, part of a small series depicting shipping and handling labels, is one of the earliest paintings in which Warhol used screen...
