Mid-Century Italian Baroque Carved Walnut Secretary Chest of Drawers
Located in Dallas, TX
This elegant, multi-function antique chest was created in Italy, circa 1960. Siting on bracket feet over a straight bottom plinth, the fruit wood cabinet features what appears to be three drawers with raised burled panels and dressed with iron handles and matching escutcheons across the front. The hinged top half surface raises up while the top drop-front hinged drawer folds down, and reveals a writing surface with inside theater and four small drawers over a niche gallery. The bottom section features two large functional drawers for extra storage. Both sides are also decorated with burled walnut raised panels. The narrow and versatile baroque writing table commode is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina, and has beautiful gothic hardware...

Circa 1870 Bleached Walnut Renaissance Style Commode from Florence, Italy
Located in Dallas, TX
This majestic, bleached walnut commode was hand-carved by an Italian master in Florence, circa 1870. The details of the floral rinceaux, which are dotted with high relief mascarons are of the highest craftsmanship, beautifully eliciting the Renaissance style. Each of the three full-length drawers has a cabochon coat of arms with large foliate whorls emanating from behind it. The two coils next to the central cartouche have floral centers, while the following volutes are adorned with mascaron pulls, each drawer with a different pair of faces. An overhanging top with quarter round molding sits over a crenellated border, which has a pair of small drawers beneath separated by a large lion mascaron. Both drawers have mascaron pulls set inside an acanthus rinceau. All drawers are flanked by tall vertical pilasters, embellished with a curled acanthus margent punctuated with a mascaron, diminishing roundels, fruits, and linenfold. A shaped shield with a large grotesque is inset on each side and surrounded by thin quarter round molding. The impressive commode is supported by four monopodial lion paw feet beneath a border of infilled gadroon lobes. The walnut wood has been stripped, giving the chest of drawers a warm golden cream color. Our Renaissance style Florentine commode...

Louis XIV Cherrywood Commode from France, Early 18th Century
Located in Dallas, TX
The straight grain and rich color of the cherry tree made it a desirable wood for constructing luxury furniture during the 18th century. One beautiful example is our period Louis XIV commode, which was hand-carved in France in the early 1700’s. Augmenting the lovely reddish-brown color of the commode is an arbalete top that slightly hangs over the three stacked drawers below. Each drawer has three bronze foliate fittings set inside geometric panels with recessed molding (two pierced foliate swag pulls flanking a small keyplate surrounded by a parted leaf). There is a unique, shallow pullout drawer with two concentric circle pulls built into the molded frieze. This drawer was most likely used to store jewelry and other small valuables. Canted corners can be seen along the front of the shaped top, with elongated asymmetrical panels beneath that flank the tiers of drawers...
