Charlotte Lucas Design
Shaken, not stirred in North Carolina
With a little Al Green on the turntable and pink champagne on ice, designer Charlotte Lucas turns an afterthought of a room into a mesmerizing hangout where real life can fall away, at least for a night. “The house is in a traditional neighborhood,” Lucas says of the Charlotte, North Carolina, residence, “but the couple had other plans for the interiors.” Clearly. Lucas got in on the fun, setting a trio of Fornasetti drinks tables from 1stDibs before the custom crushed-grape sofa and ensconcing a lacquer drinks cabinet beneath a golden fantasy shelf of barware. Her favorite feature is the motorized drape that seals the room right before martinis are poured. Says Lucas, “The homeowners have four boys ages three to twelve, so a vibey escape — with a hidden beer tap and bottles and bottles of rosé — felt necessary!”
“Creating a home that feels specific to each client is my ultimate goal when designing. Learning about the family, their design preferences, layering in details and finding a personality for each room is my recipe.”
